In the heart of the bar and restaurant scene on Laclede's Landing, Jake's Steaks, which calls itself "the best strip joint in St. Louis" serves up plenty more than just steak. Diners can choose carnitas, a burger or pepper-jack-and-bacon macaroni and cheese. The main event includes rib eye, Delmonico or, if you can handle it, the Bull, a 26-ounce bone-in filet. (For those averse to the animal, Jake's also offers a veggie burger.) The beer selection is better than most of the watering holes on the Landing, where PBR and Hefeweizen dreams go to die (not to mention any fantasy you may have had of drinking good whiskey). With no cover and a bouncer hawking $1 pitchers to entice customers, you'll be glad you skipped the $15 cover at the next place over.
