Offering greasy burgers like The Works, which is composed of €Å"everything in the kitchen,€ Jake€„¢s has welcomed all comers since 1985 -- from frat boys and the ladies who love them to cornflower blue button-down desk jockeys. The cheap-ass happy hour deals have a lot to do with it. These include three-dollar apps and two-dollar domestic bottles and cosmos enjoyable on the Christmas-light decorated patio with live music. Jake€„¢s like to shake it up in the kitchen as well, creating a burger of the month. The Philly burger (two patties, provolone, sautéed green bell peppers, onions and mushrooms) was a past creation. Get the sweet potato fries; you€„¢ll never go plain again.
The decision to upgrade to sweet-potato fries with your next meal at Jake's Hamburgers is not one to be taken lightly. Not so much because they cost a buck or so more than french fries, but because plain old french fries will never hold quite the same appeal after you've experienced Jake's sweet potato fries. Dusted with a mixture of sugar, salt and cinnamon, they're a wonderful balance of sweet and salty, crispy and soft. They hold up whether you dip them in ketchup, Tabasco, ranch or your chocolate malt, or even if you eat them dry. Sure, Burger House's seasoned fries and Steak 'n' Shake's crispy thin slivers make a case for the traditional french fry. But there's no going back after grabbing a handful of yam at Jake's.
A far cry from the one in Lake Highlands, but the same quality of food is here. Try the double cheeseburger with a side of sweet potato fries and you'll be in heaven.
My fav burger and cheese fries! No contest.

One of the few good things about working near Uptown is the people-watching, and restaurant employees are no exception. Judging by the waitstaff, the interview process at the Uptown Jake's must include a visit to Tigger's tattoos--we haven't seen this many dolphins, rainbows and butterflies since we caught that IMAX movie with the Sting soundtrack. If you'd like to see what these comely young ladies might look like after 10 years and three kids, we direct you to the former Jake's (now... More »
We once worked at a restaurant that hosted a weekly half-priced burger night. As a result, for months we could not stomach a burger and came dangerously close to vegetarianism. Luckily, absence makes the heart grow fonder, and soon enough we were eating burgers again, doing our part to help out the national beef industry. Most of the time for lunch, we just go get a deli sandwich. But every so often, our stomach rumbles and angrily demands: "Burger! Burger!" So we motor down the street to... More »
