The premises is sumptuously appointed with patterned Delft-blue tiles imported from Turkey, and the food is imported from Turkey, too, mainly intact in form and function. Twin twirling gyro cylinders in the window lure you in: the chicken, oozing fat and caramelizing on its surface, is far superior to the lamb, which resembles Greek gyro more than Turkish doner. Everything else we tried was superior to other renditions in Bensonhurst and Bath Beach, including creamy brown-top pudding, shepherd"s salad avalanched with feta, and a slippery take on baba loaded with tahini. Only the sigara boreka disappointed - insufficient cheese filling!
My one time dining experience was not pleasant. I ordered a gyro platter to go. When I got home, the meat looked and tasted like roadkill - tough, overcooked, inedible. What a waste of money. Never again!
