  • 2011 | Best Venue for Live Comedy

Reportedly, the Irvine Improv gets better acts than its counterpart in Brea. So, you say sterile wasteland We say blank canvas. The beauty of the Irvine Improv is that, given the paucity of things to do outside the Irvine Spectrum (where the Improv is located), you're so grateful you can come here for laughs that being at the Improv automatically elevates any night to superlative status. And the acts are no slouches, either: The comedians are always cutting-edge (Kevin Nealon, Jo Koy, Wanda... More »

A priest, a rabbi and Jack Nicholson walk into a soulless retail-and-entertainment farm next to the 405 freeway in Irvine, and they stumble into a happening comedy club. "Hey, what's an Improv doing in the middle of this soulless retail-and-entertainment farm next to the 405 freeway in Irvine" Jack asks."The backstroke," deadpans the rabbi, prompting the priest to do disgusting things with a family from Iowa passing by before announcing, "The Aristocrats!"... For most mere mortals, appearing in the full-length version of MC Hammer’s “2 Legit 2 Quit” music video would be the highlight of one's existence on this planet. But for Jim Belushi, it simply wasn’t enough. The comedian sibling of Blues Brother J... More »

At one time or another, nearly every comedian has worked an impression into the routine. It’s a tough skill, leaving some to fall flat in front of a crowd guzzling down a two-drink minimum. But when an impression is good, it's often unforgettable.... More »

You know that song that goes, “If you like Piña Coladas?” Well, it turns out that Rupert Holmes—the guy who wrote it—doesn’t actually like piña coladas. Crazy, right? And in a weird way, Weeds' Kevin Nealon, who plays the loveable stoner that does... More »

Good Evening Friends, I'd like to take the opportunity to extend an invitation to each of you for my appearance at the Improv in Irvine on Tuesday evening November 23rd at 8 pm. I will be the headliner and performing a one-hour show with the very funny Zoltan opening for me. I'll be raising money for the all-volunteer United Services Organization (USO) who provide a touch of home to our service members during the holidays and throughout the year. Only two days following the show, hundreds of men and women in uniform will pass through the Bob Hope Hollywood USO and be treated to a Thanksgiving meal as they travel away from home in support of our freedom. I encourage you to pass the word, invite your friends, and come out and enjoy the evening not only for a worthy cause, but because we all need to have some laughs. Tickets are only $15 and can be purchased from the Improv website at the following link: http://www.improv.com/ComedyClub/Irvine/Index I'd love to see you there! Sincerely, Mike

The Improv is great because you can see big name comics in an intimate setting to up and coming comics during their amateur nights. The amateur nights are great because you never know what big names might just pop up and do a set. Nestled right in the Irvine Spectrum you can always get drinks/food beforehand before going in.
