We’d say Patton Oswalt is the Jonathen Lethem of comedy right now, but we like Oswalt better than Lethem—he’s a polymath for the Polybius set who can knock out an essay that’s as heartfelt as it is hilarious and a connoisseur of geek/freak... More »
Get ready for a big bowl of funny this Tuesday as the Irvine Improv's weekly Comedy Juice gathering features an uncommonly high quantity of on-the-brink-of-stardom comedians. Taking the mic this night are Eliot Chang (who you've seen as the... More »
Every comedian has their schtick. For Gilbert Gottfried, it's an annoyingly nasal scream paired with a permanent stink-face expression. While that may seem like a combination one might wish to avoid, the public keeps requesting more from this... More »
Kenny Klein, a regular stand-up performer at comedy venues around the country, decides to give back a bit more than the usual evening of laughter at his show this week. Proceeds from this performance will go towards the Army's FRG (Family... More »
Thank you, Margaret Cho. Thank you for wearing an amazingly bright rainbow fringe gay-pride dress on oh-so-conservative Dancing With the Stars. Thanks for introducing the world to Selene Luna. Thank you for your side-splitting, Emmy-nominated... More »
There really is no competition in Orange County for live comedy clubs, as the Irvine Improv was born out of the standup-comedy boom of the 1980s--with roots going back to Broadway producer Budd Friedman opening New York City's Improvisation in 1963. Through subsequent rises and declines and re-rises in the yuk-yuk trade, the Irvine Improv has always been there for hosts, headliners, middlers, openers and open-mic-ers. Give the club at Irvine Spectrum bonus points for being the go-to... More »
Reportedly, the Irvine Improv gets better acts than its counterpart in Brea. So, you say sterile wasteland? We say blank canvas. The beauty of the Irvine Improv is that, given the paucity of things to do outside the Irvine Spectrum (where the Improv is located), you're so grateful you can come here for laughs that being at the Improv automatically elevates any night to superlative status. And the acts are no slouches, either: The comedians are always cutting-edge (Kevin Nealon, Jo Koy, Wanda... More »
A priest, a rabbi and Jack Nicholson walk into a soulless retail-and-entertainment farm next to the 405 freeway in Irvine, and they stumble into a happening comedy club. "Hey, what's an Improv doing in the middle of this soulless retail-and-entertainment farm next to the 405 freeway in Irvine?" Jack asks."The backstroke," deadpans the rabbi, prompting the priest to do disgusting things with a family from Iowa passing by before announcing, "The Aristocrats!"... More »
Good Evening Friends, I'd like to take the opportunity to extend an invitation to each of you for my appearance at the Improv in Irvine on Tuesday evening November 23rd at 8 pm. I will be the headliner and performing a one-hour show with the very funny Zoltan opening for me. I'll be raising money for the all-volunteer United Services Organization (USO) who provide a touch of home to our service members during the holidays and throughout the year. Only two days following the show, hundreds of men and women in uniform will pass through the Bob Hope Hollywood USO and be treated to a Thanksgiving meal as they travel away from home in support of our freedom. I encourage you to pass the word, invite your friends, and come out and enjoy the evening not only for a worthy cause, but because we all need to have some laughs. Tickets are only $15 and can be purchased from the Improv website at the following link: http://www.improv.com/ComedyClub/Irvine/Index I'd love to see you there! Sincerely, Mike
They have some good comedians each month. I go there every couple of months for a good laugh.
The Improv is great because you can see big name comics in an intimate setting to up and coming comics during their amateur nights. The amateur nights are great because you never know what big names might just pop up and do a set. Nestled right in the Irvine Spectrum you can always get drinks/food beforehand before going in.
