  • 2011 | Best Body Piercing

The Delmar Loop has a burgeoning rockabilly district, what with the addition of Devil City, the sweet new clothing store that features brands like Stop Staring! and Red Wing Shoes, and Iron Age Studio, a great spot festooned with old-school tattoos. We don't know if greasers were prone to getting titanium rods jabbed through their...naughty bits, but if they did, they'd feel at home at Iron Age. Clean and efficient, the staff piercers have impressive portfolios. Did you ever want to see what... More »

  • 2009 | Best Tattoo Parlor

Back in 1947 an advertising copywriter named Frances Gerety dreamed up the slogan "A Diamond is Forever" for De Beers. With all apologies to Ms. Gerety, this just ain't true. Diamonds get lost. They get stolen. They disappear in oceans and swimming pools or fall down drains. They get thrown back in the givers' faces. No, a diamond is not forever. But you know what is? A tattoo. There's no way you can get rid of one of those suckers that doesn't involve surgery. That's why you want to make... More »

  • 2002 | Best Tattoo Parlor

Yeah, yeah, yeah -- seems like the RFT is too damn lazy to do anything other than stroll across Delmar and extol the virtues of the neighborhood tat emporium. But for this year's contest, we did some scientific shopping. Armed with a custom-tat concept that's been buzzing around the brainpan for two or three years -- a leering, semi-anatomically-correct heart framed by a horseshoe of black thorns -- we shopped three tat shops: Trader Bob's on Jefferson Avenue, Craig's Tattoos on Lemay Ferry... • 2001 | Best Place To Get a Tattoo

The deeper they penetrate the skin, the bigger the tears are going to be that well at the corners of your eyes and the harder your jaw's gonna clench. But if you want the tattoo to last forever, to be clean and crisp for a long time, a few hours' worth of pain is worth it. The ladies and gentlemen at Iron Age understand this, but most tattooers worth anything know this basic truth. What separates Iron Age from most other parlors is their aesthetic sense. Combined, the seven artists seem to... More »

Got a piercing there. The guy forced me to follow the rules to make it heal right. It was a pain at the time, but def. for the best. Even days later he ran into my friend that as with me and asked her if I listened, when she told him I was trying to hunt down the piece of jewelry I wanted to put in before it healed he made her promise not to let me do it! AWESOME!
