Description

Colfax's rowdiest Irish restaurant-and-bar combo is very popular - and for good reason. The ground floor is a traditional pub with a large dining area, big bar and sidewalk patio that's always crowded when the sun is shining; the basement area is a leather-couch-lined rumpus room with plenty of space to lounge and chat - or play fantasy football, or participate in a pub quiz. The menu is served on both floors; it includes a mix of Irish classics and American fare, and there are more than a dozen international beers on tap (as well as just as many bottled offerings). The bar's snug - a private drinking booth imported from Ireland - is a unique, authentic feature, but it's just as fun to enjoy the nightly beer specials on the large gated patio, or in a non-smoking room. While many people would associate water or Gatorade with exercise, those people would be wrong, and the Irish Snug knows it. Every Thursday at 6:15 and 6:30 p.m., waves of runners head out from the pub, following a 5K route around Capitol Hill before returning at a sprint, walk or crawl. This bar expanded several years ago and added a huge basement to the space. The younger drinkin' crowd usually goes downstairs. The 30-somethings are on the street level. They have a musician playing traditional Irish guitar on the weekend. Wednesdays include a very talented gypsy-jazz group (look up Django Reinhardt to get a feel for the music you'll hear). One evening/wk they have a running club. Pub trivia is on Tuesdays.
