Montrose's Indika may be the best Indian restaurant in the country. What makes Anita Jaisinghani's food great is that it's not only among the most creative takes on Indian cuisine in America, it's also muy picante when it's supposed to be. In New York and San Francisco, innovative Indian chefs have to please wimpy local tastes. But here in jalapeƱo-happy Houston, Indika's fabulous, fiery Indian cooking is truly appreciated.

Great ambiance and chill music. Perfect for a date and the food is rather seductive.
Bright flavor defines not just the food here, but cocktails too; some really creative stuff is happening behind the bar. Sunny patio, this is living!
Best Indian food in town. No question.
Anita Jaisinghani earned a PhD in microbiology in her native India before she moved to Houston and changed careers. After working as the pastry chef at Café Annie for nearly two years, she opened the original Indika on Memorial. That restaurant was lauded by The New York Times, Gourmet magazine and a host of other publications for its startlingly fresh take on Indian cuisine. At the Westheimer location, the restaurant has continued to embellish its reputation as one of the most... More »
Hidebound types sputter and fume, "That's not Indian food!" when confronted with Indika's innovative cooking. There's no chicken tikka masala here. But they do have foie gras with fig preserves and trout stuffed with nuts. If this isn't what you usually think of as Indian food, then it's time to broaden your horizons. Indika's owner, Indian-born Anita Jaisinghani, doesn't feel compelled to cater to American preconceptions. Formerly a pastry chef at Café Annie, Jaisinghani has come up... More »
Succumbing to the easy pitfalls of "fusion," modern Indian cuisine often sheds thousands of years of culinary tradition simply to appeal to timid Western palates. Indika adroitly avoids these hazards. Since it moved from west Houston to Montrose, it has been turning out some of the most unforgettably delicious food -- Indian or otherwise -- in the city. No true sampling of the restaurant's treasures is complete without the crab samosas. Loaded with lump crabmeat, spiced to perfection with... More »
