Description

South Florida's growing Indian and Pakistani communities have been giving rise to a wave of restaurants that reach beyond the standard curries and kormas into regional and specialty menus, and Sunrise's new India Grill taps into the trend. The old standbys are there, including tender, flavorful tandoori chicken and well-made pakoras of fresh cauliflower and sweet potato. Ventures elsewhere in the subcontinent and beyond highlight the restaurant's strengths and some weaknesses. In lamb Kandahari, when the peppers were turned up, the pomegranate sweetness was appropriately turned down, and the gravy begged to be scooped up with naan. Unusual for these parts, a selection of Indian-style Chinese dishes includes tasty chili chicken and a splendid Gobi Manchurian, perhaps best referred to as "General Tso's Cauliflower."
