California-based In-N-Out Burger has the kind of cult following most companies merely dream of. New store openings are often subject to mass hysteria and long lines; devoted patrons visit the Los Angeles dining room and drive-thru nightly for burgers made with fresh, never frozen meat, crisp veggies and a Thousand Island-esque sauce referred to as "spread." The true sign of an In-N-Out devotee is a thorough knowledge of the "secret" menu. While the minimalist menu board lists only burgers, cheeseburgers, fries, drinks and shakes, customers in the know can customize their meals with dozens of insider terms. The ever-popular "Animal style" burger means a patty that's been fried in mustard and topped with pickles, extra spread, and grilled onions, while a "Neapolitan" shake is a combo of strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla; burgers can be requested pink in the middle, a rare feat for a fast food chain, and fans of extra crispy fries can specify "well done" fries. This place has the best chocolate shakes by far! I've never had a better shake than the ones served here. It's also my all-time favorite fastfood restaurant. Yes, it's still fast-food and thus meaning not the healthiest, but it is the closest to the healthiest. I love it and wish they would finally put one in Santa Monica.
Chocolate Shake, don't skip it!
