The concept behind the new Icehouse was to create a fun-for-all restaurant and music venue on Eat Street, with a chef-driven menu of imaginative, elevated small plates. And they have pulled that off quite well. Small plates are the focus for late night and dinner, with dishes like gulf shrimp in a pesto-tinged broth, an adult mac and cheese, house-made charcuterie and deli meats (a co-owner came from Be'wiched), and, at brunch, a savory eclair that shouldn't be missed, made with maple-brushed pork belly and smoky cheddar cheese sauce. The drinks program was designed by bartender extraordinaire Johnny Michaels. Put this on your short list for an awesome first-date spot.

The first bite catches you off guard: Whoa, these are not your average chicken wings. We've become accustomed to the above-average bar snacks at Icehouse, but the wings are on another level. Sure, the burger is good, and they make a serious French fry, but the wings are just downright addictive. First, the chicken appendages are slowly cooked confit, in a warm fat bath, rendering the meat extra tender. Then they are fried until the skin is shatter-crisp. After that, they are tossed with a... It's no surprise that Icehouse has some killer drinks on its menu. The specialty cocktail list was designed by Johnny Michaels of the North Star Bartenders' Guild and La Belle Vie fame, after all. Novelty drinks can be extremely hard to pull off, but that's not the case here. The Little Richard is an appropriately fruity and fizzy concoction featuring its namesake imprinted on the cream-foam top. The Full.Grown.Man. brings together homemade ginger beer and bitters with rum and bourbon.... More »
