Hyde Away Blues BBQ is a cash-only Southern restaurant located in the Tenderloin between Ellis Street and O'Farrell. It is run by the Mayfield family and is known for its behind-the-counter friendly personality, Little May. Hyde Away Blues serves food such as coleslaw, jerk chicken, red beans and rice, hot links, whiskey pulled pork, lobster mac and cheese, ribs, blue cheese burgers, meatball sandwiches, bourbon-flavored pound cake, sweet cherry brandy pulled turkey, potato salad, sweet tea, molasses cookies, sausage, and jambalaya. The restaurant itself is a hole in the wall with not much space to eat inside but occasionally a table will be brought outside for seating. The décor is charming and reminiscent of New Orleans with Motown memorabilia on exposed brick walls. Menu items and prices are written on a chalkboard surrounded by signs such as "be nice or get out" and as well as signs celebrating the San Francisco Giants. (Muni: 16X, 38L, 2, 3, 5, 19, 27, 31, 38)
