The heartiest of the food found along the old Blues Highway is the stock-in-trade of this charming Webster Groves spot. From old favorites like St. Louis-style spare ribs and pan-fried chicken to stuff you may never have tried (like delicious fried tamales), you'll find something to stick to your ribs, with more than enough left over for the next day. Cajun and Creole specialities, including a gumbo dense with chicken and andouille sausage or shrimp-and-crawfish étouffée, are excellent. Be sure to save room for "The King": a deep-fried peanut-butter-and-banana sandwich topped with shaved chocolate.
For all its charms, Webster Groves isn't exactly known as a cradle of blues music. But several nights a week, the Highway 61 Roadhouse and Kitchen ...

First and last time I will be there. Service was horrible. Waitress was snotty and mean. Food was terrible. We spent $60 on 3 for lunch and got lots to sample. Hamberger was bad. The bbq was ok. We got sampler and nothing great. The corn souffle was tastless. Mac and Cheese was dry. We got the a sampler appetizer and the wings were not good. The only thing we liked were the tamales. We asked waitress for items and she never brought them. It was slow the day we came and she still never came to table. We got the bread pudding which was dry. Waitress brought bill before she even asked us for desert. Never again will I waste my hard earned money on that place. Don't waste your time. Theres too many other good places that are hidden gems.... This isn't one of them!
The subject of the blues may be misery, but the result is often comfort. By sharing our pain with one another, we begin to heal. Some gooey, stick-to-your-ribs grub usually helps speed along the process. You'll find both the blues and the grub at Hwy 61 Roadhouse and Kitchen in Webster Groves, which celebrates the music and food of that fabled Blues Highway running from New Orleans to Memphis to St. Louis. So you can heal your broken heart with St. Louis-cut spare ribs in a peppery, tangy... More »
