Neither Tom of Finland nor Charles Bukowski would feel out of place at this handsome, out-of-the-way diner, though both would probably have found Hudson on the classy side. The menus update Classic American diner food by upgrading ingredients and by giving much of the food a Southern cast. Cult items: cheesy grits with catfish or shrimp, chicken-fried Field Roast (there's a beef version, too), and the deep-fried French toast. At the end of the day, the kitchen can run out of steam (and fresh ingredients), so take your cue from the military recruiters and factory workers sitting around the bar and stick to burgers and pints.
Excellent Brunch! Praise be, that I never tasted a chicken-fried steak like this when I was younger man. Probably would have resulted in serious health problems. Can't eat it often, but it makes me feel good, just knowing it's there.
