Description

Houston Press' Description

Vieng Thai, Houston's most authentic Thai restaurant, is a humble mom-and-pop operation in the Long Point area with scuffed concrete floors and a blaring wide-screen TV. But its fiery soups, slippery noodles, incendiary curries and tart Thai salads blow the city's fancier Thai restaurant fare away.

AUTHENTIC THAI FOOD---ONE OF THE VERY FEW TRUE TO ORIGIN THAI RESTAURANTS IN AMERICA'S 4TH LARGEST CITY. BOAT NOODLE SOUP, SOMTAM, WOON SEN TO DIE FOR. IT'S STILL BYO--"BLESS YOU "KHUN JENNY"",

Vieng Thai's dynamic dishes are a welcome change or addition to the ordinary just-home-from-work quick dinner out. As you enter the modest dining area, remind yourself that it's the food at Vieng Thai that's bringing you here. Random karaoke videos in the background may or may not add to the ambience, depending on your camp-tolerance that day. The impressive menu guides you... More >>

Long Point is one of the most ethnic streets in Houston and a real treat to drive down, the eastern part more Latino while the western part is heavily Korean. Vieng Thai is one of the 3 best Thai places in the city because they don't dumb down the food for American palates, and therefore have gained a wide array of customers, from Memorialites slumming it (they used to visit... The best Thai food in Houston and the spiciest damn papaya salad you'll ever eat. Make sure you call ahead before trekking to Long Point, they've been known to close early on a whim. [Eater 38 Member]

    best thai in houston!

  • Jenn on 11/16/11

The place is a true dive, really, but.it reminds me of Thailand. It's close to home cooking at best. The gaang dang, noodle soups, and gai wha are great. Kind of pricey for the area, and BYOB.

I meant this place does not look the best from outside but DO step, the food is worth it!!

  • IAHGVA S. on 05/20/11

Tried all the Thai in town, this one does look the best but it is the closest thing you will find to authentic Thai and I live in BKK 6 months so know a little bit about it...
