Description

Houston Press' Description

Taqueria del Sol is not Tex-Mex. (One tell-tale sign: The cheese is white, not yellow.) They specialize in authentic Mexican food like caldo de res, machacadas, barbacoa and milanesa. They also sell food anyone would recognize, like enchiladas and burritos, but undiluted by non-traditional accouterments. The chile con queso and salsa are homemade and popular, as are the cheap breakfast plates. The wait can be long on weekends, which is the only time menudo is served.

2010 Best of Houston® Winner: Best Taqueria: Our fave is the torta de barbacoa, a Mexican sandwich of tender bbqed meat atop a soft, flavorful bun & bursting with lettuce, tomato, guac & sour cream.

    try the lemonaid!!!

  • David F. on 01/26/10

There is more parking in the back with the chain link fence. The exit out from here is different from the entrance in the corner.

  • Almadeseneca on 07/28/13

This place is busy even in the middle of the night! Good food. I tried the tampiqueña meat and it was softer than the regular fajita.
