Silver Slipper

Map & Directions 3717 Crane
Houston, TX 77026

Houston Press' Description

Fifth Ward's legendary Silver Slipper is older than the majority of Houston's drinking population at this point. Specializing in blues and soul, the low-slung bar opened its doors in 1952 and has remained a family business ever since, passing from father to son. The Slipper's red lights are lit every night except Sunday and Tuesday, but we recommend Saturday. That's when the bar turns into the church of Barry White, presided over by patron saints Sam Cooke and Solomon Burke. The dance floor repeatedly fills and empties, with the crowd often aiding, abetting and egging on the band. Cover charge is only $5, table service is provided, and although the Slipper only sells a small variety of beers, patrons are welcome to bring their own bottles and purchase mixers.

I love the silver slipper club,The owners Curley and Dorothy are the best, They never meet a stranger. When you walk in they make sure they shake every hand in the place, and the food is out of this world. All I can say is KUDOS to Curley and Dorothy keep up the good work.
