Houston Press' Description

Mai's has been serving Houston bowls of pho and plates of Vietnamese fajitas since 1978, stopping only briefly to rebuild after a devastating fire in 2010. Stay away from the mixed drinks at the flashy bar, though, and stick with classics like bun or com dia with Mai's seasoned Cornish game hen. Chicken wings are similarly well-seasoned and delightfully crispy, while the bright lotus root salad is big enough to feed a whole table.

Can't wait til they rebuild this all-night Vietnamese institution.

C'mon, who in Houston doesn't know Mai's? Unless you're living under a rock in Tomball, I'm sure you've tried it. Mai's is great Vietnamese food and is known to many because it is one of the only asian dives that is open 24hrs. Most people are known to go there after bar-hopping in Midtown...but it also serves as a well-known lunch spot frequented by Downtown business men and... More >>

Mai's is without a doubt the best place for Viet food in town. If ya dont believe me then check it out for yourself. This place is open late on the weekends and 2am becomes a very busy place. You will find all the intoxicated Houstonians sobering up here but the super slippery floors make it a challenge for even the designated drivers. Also crossing the street to get to and from... Tips from foursquare

Post-fire, Mai's looks more upscale and urban, but the food has retained its homey street quality. Get some spring rolls, and share a Banh Xeo and the garlic beef.

I loved the chicken and asparagus! They say it's a little spicy but it's really not.

  • Kassidy M. on 04/24/11

    Ohhhh the spring rolls!

  • Ariel E. on 05/12/11

Open until 3am Monday-Thursday, 4am Friday & Saturday. Great tofu dishes!

  • Aleeta B. on 04/02/13

WARNING: Appetizers are meal-sized. Order one or the other, but not both unless you are really hungry! :-)
