Houston Press' Description

Saltillo native Carlos Abedrop brought the skills that he perfected in his backyard in Mexico to Montrose to create a Mexican steakhouse with a menu that caters to any taste. Abedrop readily admits that Houston needs another steakhouse like it needs another Mexican restaurant, but La Casa del Caballo isn't just another steakhouse. Though the Mexican-inspired offerings are lackluster (heavy on grease and light on flavor), the steak is phenomenal, and most pieces are big enough to share. Particularly impressive is the four-pound rib eye cap, which can feed six people and is definitely worth the extra time it takes to cook. All the steaks are seasoned with only salt and pepper and cooked over a mesquite grill to achieve a gloriously simple, smoky char that allows the flavor of the meat — be it beef, pork or lamb — to really shine.
