El Gran Malo
Houston, TX 77008
Houston Press' Description
You might think El Gran Malo is just a bar, but you'd be wrong. This Timbergrove Tex-Mex spot elevates both tequila and tacos to a fine art, with house infusions like golden beet or pecan-and-cayenne-pepper tequilas that make a mean margarita if you're adventurous. Standards like tamales, tacos and even tortas are all given modern twists, and you can slap a fried egg on top of your torta or get those tacos with Mexican Coca-Cola-marinated pork belly tucked inside.

I went to try this place June 30th 2013 for the 1st time. I was very excited to try this place. We sat down after 10 minutes of sitting there we finally were asked what we wanted to drink. We received out drinks and wanted about 30 minutes so someone to take our order, mind you this was not the waiter who took our order from the get go. As this being our first time there we asked questions on the menu and how food was served. The "server" who took our order was very rude and was not very helpful in any way. We got our food and the party I was with asked to get a refill on our drinks we told by the server that "WE WERE CUT OFF" we all looked at him very puzzled on why. We asked to speak the manager who was the person who took our order and mind you the one who was very rude and not helpful in any way. He comes out and we ask why we were cut off. The party I was with was very nice to him not rude in one bit. A person who was in our party is a restaurant manager and chef for over 15 plus years, told the manger her expearince in the business and he was very rude. We asked why we were cut off and he said ' cause the man who asked all the questions about the food, eyes were very red and I feel like he needs to be cut off cause if he was in his right mind he would not asked so many questions on the food, how it was cooked and would have know what to order" . Well the man who asked all the questions was my husband and my husband said " how am I cut off because I asked questions on your menu?" clapped his hands very loud to point everyone looked at our table and kicked up out for being "out of control" We did not understand what was the reason. He then stated he was going to call the cops on us. We then got up and left. He was very rude and unprofessional. I will never come here again. There was other tables who where louder and drinking but were not cut off. I will never come here again nor recommend this place to anyone.
