Houston Press' Description

The original Christian's Tailgate on Washington Avenue — no, not that Washington Avenue; keep heading north until you cross I-10 — is still one of the best places in the city to relax with a burger, a beer and a sports game or three (the place is filled with TV screens, large and small), even after 70 years. The beer selection has grown more impressive over time, and the rugged burgers with their hand-formed patties and ample toppings are as good as ever.

Tips from foursquare

    Beers and burgers!

  • Ray S. on 09/02/11

Add bacon, avocado, and a fried egg to your burger!

  • Houston Press on 09/25/13

The hefty, iceberg-topped burger tastes like old-school Texas, and that's just what the doctor ordered sometimes.

  • Ammy S. on 11/23/10

    Best burgers in town!

  • Eric H. on 10/15/11

Try the 1/2 Lb Burger & Onion Rings - Unfortunatly no pink, but huge juicy and delish! Rings fantastic. Fries are also excellent. (via @Foodspotting)
