Houston Press' Description

Cecil's is a Montrose drinking institution, full of a surliness and warmth that only family can give you. The small television nook to the left of the bar, complete with a worn-in couch, is perfect for lazing the night away after a day in the high-rise salt mines down the street. It's easy to hide inside a darkened booth if that's your bag, or you can hold court out on the deck. To soundtrack your pool-sharking or dart-throwing ways, the jukebox oozes with old punk rock and other required Houston roots selections. For the thrifty drinker, Monday nights feature cheap wells and draw a huge, smoky crowd, and grilled foods to the front deck.

Tips from foursquare

no matter how long i'm away, this place always kind of feels like home.

  • CultureMap Houston on 02/28/12

Cecil’s Tavern is staffed with some of the most exacting and engaging bartenders around, who are tough, smart, and great listeners.

  • Candace K. on 08/09/10

Contrary to the other tips on here, Cecil's has $2 Lone Star and $1 Wells on Mondays. $1 Frozen Margaritas on Wednesdays. $7.50 Lone Star Pitchers every day. :)

  • Haloise R. on 09/22/10

    $1 margaritas on Wednesdays...$2 for a pint-sized "double"!

  • Jared H. on 08/10/10

Monday nights are rowdy. Really the only thing worth doing on a late Houston Monday night.
