Once your settled Honeyhole is a godsend, delivering tasty meats and veggies on an enticing array of freshly baked breads. Hot sandwiches-like the Buford T. Justice, with tangy pulled pork, pineapple barbecue sauce, and melted provolone-rarely disappoint, nor do vegetarian options like El Guapo, whose assorted veggies and Italian herbs get a flavorful boost from smoked gouda and ranch dressing. Like the Incredible Hulk, or maybe a werewolf, at night it transforms into a bar.

    Huffing and puffing up Pike Street, I'm always caught short by the delectable odor wafting from the kitchen of the Honey Hole, that awesome Capitol Hill sandwich joint. During ideal downwind conditions, you can smell the ingredients of classics like the Bandit and Gooch from blocks away. Even if you've just eaten, you'll be drawn in for a second lunch. Is it some sort of marketing gimmick?—Joshua Lynch
