H.P. is one of only three Honduran restaurants in the city. Though I'm not sure what "Patio" refers to - the place is small and boxy with no backyard - the food is worth riding the ferry to get. The pupusas (stuffed masa pancakes) come with the usual fillings of pork, beans, or cheese, and other memorable snacks include baleadas: like southern Mexican quesadillas, only deploying flour tortillas. Bigger feeds include beefsteak with onions, and a memorable stewed tongue served with a tomato gravy thickened with peanut powder. Finally, there are the enchiladas piled high with ground-meat picadillo, which resemble Mexican tostadas.
This place has been closed for over 3 years as of this post (10/18/12) and in its place is a combination Cafe/Performance Space/Gallery (The Studio/Coyle Cavern). If the Voice came out and reviewed what is in the location right now I'm sure that it would make your best of issue.
A baleada is a Honduran treat, a small and supple flour tortilla flopped over a filling of earthy beans and flocculent cheese. They're hard to find in New York, but you can get one at Honduras Patio, the latest addition to New York's very small collection of Honduran restaurants.
