Through their raucous, monthly hip-hop-infused open-mic nights, Homeroom organizers hope to shatter the beret-wearing, incense-burning, dim-lit-coffeehouse image that exists of Spoken Word. For several months on end, Homeroom, held the last Wednesday of the month at Lake Worth's Propaganda, has been the go-to night for budding Jack Kerouacs and future Jay Z's. Spoken-word artists, poets, vocalists, MCs, performing artists, and lyricists of all sorts are invited to join in the fun. The common thread that unites Homeroom attendees is a love of hip-hop culture, so expect many heads bouncing all night as burgeoning MCs spit out their lyrics. As a bonus, February's installment features the laid-back grooves of DJ Anthology on the ones and twos. Event promoters encourage performers to arrive early, as the signup list closes at 10 p.m. If you have the bravado, make it out to Homeroom and wax poetic on the mic. The rhymes begin flowing at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Propaganda, located at 6 S. J St. in Lake Worth. Admission is $10. Call 561-308-6262, or visit propagandalw.com.
