Standup comedy is a lot like swimming: The only way to find out you're any good at it is to try it out yourself, and there's a significant chance of dying that first time. Performers receive 10 free tickets, so you can bring a rooting section/support crew, and after the show happy-hour speicals go into effect, so you can celebrate your victory or console yourself in defeat.
