Japanese culture is simultaneously strange and awesome. Sushi and sake are delicious, while the bizarro blog WTF Japan, Seriously? speaks for itself. Fortunately, most of the country's inherent strangeness is pretty entertaining. It’s difficult... More »

Beautiful old (only by Phoenix terms) historic neighborhood. Unfortunately you can sometimes catch it when nearly everything is closed. If you have a choice, go during the daytime in the cooler months. There's the Rosson House museum, Doll & Toy Museum, Science Center, History Museum, Pizzeria Bianco, Rose & Crown, and Nobuo.
Old turn-of-the-century houses right next to the Science Center!!!

Everything from the candle-lit merch tables to the high-end beer to the gorgeous custom tapestry behind... More »

But you'll get a chance to witness almost the real thing at the annual Diwali Festival of Lights, put on by the India Association of Phoenix and its sister organizations, which are too numerous to list here.Last year, the festival celebrating Diwali, a major fall holiday in India and Nepal, celebrated its sixth anniversary, and it seems to get bigger, grander, and...
