The "Hey Joe" Filipino Food Truck is, truly, a one-of-a-kind food truck where Brian and his wife, Margita, are bringing the cuisine of the Philippines to the streets of Phoenix. From handmade Lumpias (Filipino-style eggrolls) to melt-in-your mouth Lechon Kawali (13-hour braised pork belly then deep fried), "Hey Joe" is the place to go if you're looking to travel without the hassle of leaving the country.
If you are adventurous, you need to try Brian's Sisig, which is a combination of snout, ears, jowl, and cheek of the head of the pig that is diced up, sauteed then served with a duck egg on a hot skillet. From a personal point-of-view, this was intimidating but in the end, I saw it as a Bacon Hash... and, tell me, who says "No" to Bacon?
Another adventurous dish to try, and quite well known, is Balut, or a fertilized duck embryo and, yes, there is a duck inside of it. I've had many people turn away or give me weird looks after I've told them I've had a duck embryo. To me, it's all mental and after I've had it, it was more or less a hardboiled egg with a roast duck inside. That's all it was!
So, if you're looking for something new and unique while checking out the food truck scene, I highly recommend stopping by to see Brian and Margita at the Hey Joe! Filipino food truck. Let them bring the Philippines to your taste buds!
