Calling itself Fort Lauderdale's first Chinese restaurant, the establishment founded in the '50s still consistently serves some downright savory Szechuan, Mandarin, and Cantonese cuisine. There's never a doubt the fare is homemade; if you dine during the slow hours, you can watch the staff roll, stuff, and pinch the won tons. Then you can order them freshly boiled in the mixed egg drop-wonton soup or steamed as an appetizer. Thanks to the crisp vegetables that garnish everything from the house-special sirloin to the chow fun (broad noodles), Henry should just change the wording of his slogan from first to freshest.
While many Chinese takeout places appear to have been built from the remains of a Denny's or Taco Bell, Henry's is an institution. Since 1959, the place has been dishing out Chinese food, from Szechuan to Mandarin to Cantonese, from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 4 to 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
