The gorgeous view of the city atop the Sir Francis Drake Hotel is almost worth the dress code and $10 drinks; cover bands play funk, soul, and Motown classics on weekends, and a DJ spins most weeknights. A favorite among tourists and S.F.'s old-money crowd.

to keep you coming back for more. At the top of the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in the prettiest city in the world.
I didn't expect this place to have the vibe it did. Check it and buckle up for randomness.
This club has the most random demographics, music, and atmosphere. It is worth a visit.
If '30s elegance and big band, jazz, and upbeat dance music are what you're into, it's hard to beat the Starlight Room, high atop the Sir Francis Drake Hotel above Union Square. Elegance is key here, from the walnut-paneled elevators that whisk you up to the hotel's 21st floor, to the silk-draped chandeliers and burgundy velvet booths. And since the dance floor (which sports an old-fashioned mirror-glass glitter ball in the middle) is windowed on three sides, the city lights views are to die... More »
Draped with chandeliers and silk and done up in ruby red and gold tones to create a 1930s opulence, the Starlight Room (formerly the Starlight Roof) occupies the 21st floor of the Sir Francis Drake Hotel, overlooking Union Square. It would be worth a visit for nothing else but the dazzling 300-degree views of the city and the bay, but then there's Harry Denton's Starlight Orchestra, which plays several nights each week (call for the current schedule), and to which one may dance or simply... It's almost a cliche, but the Cable Car cocktail at the legendary Starlight Room atop the Sir Francis Drake Hotel is truly to die for. Served in a cocktail glass rimmed with cinnamon sugar, the Cable Car consists of spiced rum, curaçao, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Its reddish-brown hue contrasts beautifully with the cinnamon -- the colors really do hearken back to the rust tones of the streetcars -- and the flavor is neither too sugary nor too alcoholic. It's the perfect drink for the b... More »
Swinging, clinging, and dipping 21 stories above the asphalt can be a truly celestial experience, especially at the Starlight Room, which offers its dancers unparalleled visual proximity to the cosmos. As you and your partner head onto the dance floor, seduced by the Motown rhythms of the Starlight Orchestra, you'll realize that your terpsichorean backdrop won't be the plywood, concrete, and laser beams de rigueur at many a lesser hot spot; beckoning your booty instead is an expansive...
