Description

This 12,000 square foot concert was originally built by Oscar Hammerstein in 1906 as an opera house. It's since been a vaudeville hall, a Freemasons' Temple, and, in its current incarnation, a marquee-name pop music venue. Acts as diverse as Weezer and Underworld have performed here but, with a capacity of 3,000, it can often be difficult to see the stage from the standing-room, unslanted first floor. Regardless, Hammerstein has opera house-quality acoustics, so every seat sounds like the best in house.

  • 2005 | Best General-Admission Venue for Geezers

Remember when you were young and stood for hours in a small, stinky GA club to see New Order Felt pretty darn good about yourself didn't ya HAMMERSTEIN BALLROOM allowed fans to happily re- create this experience--and similar experiences for Devo, Kraftwerk, and Nine Inch Nails--without having to work for it. The venue boasts two levels of balcony seats and a considerably docile standing-room-only section downstairs. More »

  • 2001 | Best Bathroom in a Music Venue

The ladies' room at HAMMERSTEIN BALLROOM is bigger than most apartments. There's rarely an unbearable line. It's always clean. But the clincher is the wonderful lounge-like entryway. There's plenty of wall space to sit and lean against, whether you're just tired or too drunk to stand. Plus, it's a great place to meet guys. More »

As its title seems to suggest, last year’s Break the Spell didn’t quite rise to the pop-metal standard set by Daughtry’s first two albums. (Dude’s best when giving into his wimpy-glammy side à la “Home,” truly a power ballad for the ages.) Never t... More »

Even though Rick Ross’s Teflon Don (2010) had tracks produced by Kanye West and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, its two most important songs came from the desktop of Lex Luger, the barely known 19-year-old whose biggest previous hit had been Waka Flocka Fl... More »
