This tropical, tiki-style outdoor restaurant overlooks the water in Jupiter and so draws tourists and locals for entertainment and drinks. The food and service take a back seat to the lively atmosphere, especially on weekends in season. But it's crazy popular, with two- and three-hour waits for dining tables. (Tip: If you're bent on eating here, do lunch.) Guanabanas is easy to miss if you're not looking for it; parking is slim in its lot, so most park across the street at an abandoned restaurant and cross A1A at the designated crosswalk. After waiting at the bar (don't imbibe too much -- Jupiter police are forever cruising this area), share some appetizers -- the Bahamian conch chowder is noteworthy, as are the conch fritters. A slew of Mexican fare is on the menu as well -- quesadillas, tacos, and blackened fish burritos. Dinners are slightly higher -- tequila-lime shrimp or chicken, fried shrimp, fish of the day. Jumbo lump crab cakes are a good bet, but steaks, chops, and chicken as well as a burger section are there for landlubbers. On "Big Wednesdays," the place offers live entertainment and drink specials.

A canopy of trees, under the stars, on a swath of Jupiter Inlet where the water laps sweetly at the shoreline. Pull up a barstool near the waterfall and listen to a surf-reggae band croon. This is the way your guests imagined Florida, so it's only fair to give them what they seek. Every inch of Guanabanas murmurs vacation, from the tiki huts to the wooden deck chairs where you can sit, nurse a beer, and contemplate moonlight on the water. Greenery this lush doesn't exist much anymore in... More »
Nestled along the Intracoastal Waterway, Guanabanas will immediately make you feel like you're at an expensive tropical resort with its carved-wood tables and chairs, stone walkways, lush green palm trees, and polite staff. It may seem like a reflex to order a Corona and conch fritters given your surroundings, but after the first batch, it will be out of necessity. Just $8.95 gets you a handful of fritters that are perfectly fried on the outside and tender on the in, served with a tangy... More »
Chef/owner John Zimmerman closed this casual neighborhood hangout in 2006 with plans to refurbish the kitchen and completely redesign the outdoor drinking and dining areas. Problem was, he ran out of money. But Zimmerman convinced a group of local patrons to pool their resources and invest, raising more than $2 million to complete his tiki-themed dream. Now the winding paths are in place between screens of banana and bamboo, the coconut palms and the waterfall have been installed and the... More »
