Some items at Green have almost universal appeal: The flatbread pizzas are tasty, as are the butterless, eggless chocolate chip cookies. But the meatball sammy and "Green" burger will only please those who've forgotten what beef tastes like. Basically, this is fast-food vegan, and fills a niche that needs to be filled, to judge by the crowds. For meat-eaters, it's a place to take the vegan date, where you'll be able to eat something on the menu without gagging.
Tempe residents who love veggies, get ready to celebrate. Blue Sky Farms is planning on starting a new CSA program and they're doing so by teaming up with Green, meaning you'll soon have one more plac... More »
I've done it. I've committed to living in Phoenix again after spending years in Manhattan and Brooklyn. I was a student at NYU in a self-constructed program of Food and Environmental Studies, sourci... More »
Hey, you vegetarians and vegans. Round up your carnivorous companions and drag them over to Green on Wednesday, March 20. For every flesh-muncher you bring in to eat a vegan meal for Green's "Carnivor... More »
While a jumbo tub of hot buttered popcorn is one of our most frequently indulged guilty pleasures, we think a good movie deserves a little better company than junk food. Try out our movie and meal pa... More »
What? Not done with your holiday shopping? Yeah, neither are we. But we've been making lists -- and checking them twice -- and we've got some suggestions for the nice people on your list. Today, Chow ... More »
The recipes make me green with envy and feeling healthy as a horse; can I get any more cliche. Seriously, the food is tasty, tantalizing and to die for. Vegan food never made me ravenous until I went Green.
The place to go to for vegan comfort food. The faux BBQ chicken sandwich has to be my favourite menu option, but I've never eaten a single thing I didn't highly enjoy at Green. They also have frequent specials for non-menu items.
A vegetarians delight! this place is great!
We love meat. A lot. Meat on the bone. Beef ribs dripping with fat, Southern-fried chicken with the skin on, lamb chops, pork chops -- you get the idea. But we'd give it all up -- and toss milk and eggs in there, too -- if you could promise us that every meal we'd eat would be as good as what we get at Green. From the edamame to the tsoynamis (the latter is a soy-based shake with mix-ins, like a Blizzard), everything at Green is good. Not good for you, necessarily, but... More »
We always feel sorry for our vegetarian friends when the only things they can order off the menu are skimpy salads, side dishes, or the ubiquitous veggie burger. It's a shame more places don't cater to them. And it's far worse for a vegan. Thankfully, there's Green, where nothing on the menu bears a trace of animal products. And lest you think that equals bland health food, what Green does best happens to be total comfort food -- flatbread pizza slathered in vegan barbecue sauce and... More »
Technically, Green serves vegan food -- that is, it contains no milk, eggs, cheese, or any other animal product. That may sound intimidating, but trust us: It's the tastiest meatless cuisine in town. The beauty of this place is how even full-blown carnivores can appreciate it. While vegetarians get a bad rap for liking flavorless, healthful stuff, Green shows the naughty side of the veggie lifestyle with decadent treats like fried pita with spicy garlic poblano hummus, thyme fries with... Even card-carrying carnivores won't miss their beloved animal protein at Green, where seemingly hardcore vegan cuisine -- which leaves out dairy as well as meat -- gets an American comfort-food spin. Whether you prefer mock meats, tofu, or just a whole lot of vegetables, Green's preparations are fresh and flavorful, with exotic seasonings and sometimes a gutsy degree of spiciness. Bland rabbit food this ain't. Irresistible starters include curry and vegetable-filled samosas with... More »
Let's be honest: Vegans are a major pain in the tuchis. Never mind abstaining from eggs, milk and cheese; they won't even eat honey, people, lest the bees be exploited by man. This is why most vegan-friendly fare bites. Customers for this cuisine are more concerned with their own hairsplitting ethics, and don't mind punishing their palates for the cause. So flavor falls victim to morality. Unless you're talking about Tempe's Green, where they at least make an effort to craft vegan vittles... More »
