Chef Joseph Giannuzzi created a true "green" market of prepared foods -- a deli and cafˇ all in one at the Green Gourmet in the Shoppes at Addison Place, where the focus is on fresh, organic, or locally sourced products. The menu at the green shop changes often, depending on what's in season and at its peak. The tiny store -- it has a dozen or so seats -- carries out the environmentally friendly theme with recycled glass-tile countertops, bamboo plates for serving, energy-efficient lights, and more. A number of fresh foods ready to take home are prepared each day, including four soups and several sandwiches and wraps and a selection of entrˇes, side dishes, and desserts. Notable is the chicken meatball hero with pomodoro sauce and house-made mozzarella, the lean bison burger, an organic veggie lasagna, and a turkey meat loaf. Organic wines and craft beers, handpicked by the chef, also are sold. In the afternoon, a "smoothie happy hour" is featured. Prices are moderate, and diners can choose to eat in, which we recommend, in order to chat with the engaging chef and hear of his mission to promote sustainable foods.
