Run by the same family for over two decades, this small brick-facade building in the heart of the West Saint Paul strip is the epitome of old-school (a former Winchell’s, as a matter of fact). Grab a bag to go, or take a break and have a seat, sip a coffee, read the paper, and savor the heavenly deliciousness of some of the best doughnuts in the area. Find all your faves here, like the lightest of cake doughnuts, rich crème-filled, and perfectly crisp apple fritters. Two rules, though: arrive early because many varieties sell out quickly; and stop at the ATM first, because Granny only takes cash.
The hardcore doughnut lover has no use for the prissy and limited varieties at most bakeries, nor the equally limited Stepford doughnuts of Krispy Kreme.
