If you're meandering around the neighborhood of the Grand Ole Creamery, it's practically impossible not to be pulled in by the divine smell of fresh waffle cones from this family-owned gem. Still warm from the iron, thick and cakey, large and bountiful, one of these without ice cream could leave you content. Luckily, they are filled with a seemingly limitless supply of some of the best ice cream in the state--freshly made, buttery, and rich, with not a hint of chemical additives The ice cream here comes in a variety of textures, colors, and flavors--some classic, others more creative--and the hand-written list changes every week or so. From butter pecan with a twist of rum to chocolate packed with chunks of fresh raspberries to simple sweet cream or fruity banana, there's something here for the adventurous, the decadent, and the conservative. If the weather's above freezing (and sometimes even when it isn't) you'll generally find a line out the door, but it's worth the wait.
Honestly I do not know how "Bert's" stays in business. I have NEVER been treated so poorly in my life. On Friday, 2/11/11 I called to order a pizza delivery at 6:09PM. The young lady who took my order and credit card information stated that it would be 20 minutes for delivery. By 6:50PM I still had no pizza so I made a phone call to see how long it would take. Rob (who states he's the owner) was extermely rude and stated that it's on it's way, but that they were busy. I told him that this was very upsetting considering I was told 20 minutes for delivery. I understand places get busy, but I'd be more understanding to the situation if I was treated with respect. Rob hung up on me which upset me even more. I waited another 20 minutes and STILL no pizza, so I called back and asked to speak with the manager, or owner. Rob got back on the phone and informed me that they were too busy to deliver to me. I then asked if it was good customer service to NOT call the customer and let them know you could not deliver. He didn't seem that there was anything wrong with just not delivering. Had I known that it was going to be over an hour wait and that they were never going to deliver to me I would've gone and picked up my pizza, but with the rude customer service that I received I will more than likely NEVER order from Grand Old Creamery again and I plan on sharing my story as often as I can. I work in the food industry and if I treated my customer like that I would hope someone would fire me. I feel compelled to share my experience with you and with anyone that I know that is thinking about ordering from Grand Old Creamery.
Loved it. Never seen so many different flavors. The key lime pie ice cream actually seemed to be key lime pie. Pretty awesome, and right next to my favorite Greek place.

If you're meandering around the neighborhood of the Grand Ole Creamery, it's practically impossible not to be pulled in by the divine smell of fresh waffle cones. Sweet, golden, and somehow both soft and crunchy, one of these without ice cream could leave you content. But then you'd be missing out on the cool, creamy yin to the waffle cone's yang. In ancient Greek mythology, the horn of plenty, or cornucopia, was an enchanted goat's horn that would fill with whatever its possessor wished. It was a gift from Zeus to a beloved daughter, whose appetite for milk was limitless. In the Twin Cities, the closest thing to a horn of plenty, O you who lust for chilled lactic products, is the waffle cone wielded by any counter worker at the Grand Ole Creamery. These cones are pure magic: still warm from the iron, thick and cakey, large and... More »
