Located right next door to Grand Central Station, this gleaming Trump monolith earned the distinction "Most Accommodating Hotel Lobby" back in 2009 from this publication for a reason: convenience. As long as you're reasonable, one can pass time waiting for a friend at the Grand Hyatt Hotel's lobby in peace and quiet... so long as all of the right angles, stainless steel, and gaudy take on modernist style don't bug you too much. However, should you decide to drop some big bucks for a meal, the New York Central Bar and Kitchen serves an upscale and seasonal New American menu which covers all the basics--from steak frites to roasted chicken. Located in an elaborately windowed solarium-type room, the glowing bar has a space-aged feel to it, and in the lobby, the 24/7 Market sells prepared food and drink. Got a room? It's sterile and ugly, we know. And it's Trump--but we repeat ourselves. Still, for waiting-on-a-friend purposes, the Grand Hyatt Hotel has one great advantage: As long as you look marginally respectable and don't make a scene, you can (in our experience) stay for an hour or more without security hassling you. Maybe it's because the seating is very uncomfortable, which tends to discourage authentic hobos. And it's centrally located! More »
