Description

For all the cursing and screaming British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay does on his TV shows, his Manhattan restaurant is remarkably serene. The décor has all the color of Superman's Fortress of Solitude, that is, a monochromatic blend of white, eggshell and silvery glass. Eating here is a formal affair, with a mix of European and American guests clad in designer suits and dresses. Dinner is not cheap, with the seven-course tasting menu costing $195, significantly more expensive than comparable restaurants like, say, Jean-Georges. What can you expect for your money? Painstakingly prepared dishes like sautéed Hudson Valley foie gras, Mediterranean sea bass with crème fraiche gnocchi, roasted Colorado lamb and more. A vegetarian version of the tasting menu is also available, while wine pairings will cost you an additional $115. If you don't feel like eating your way through seven courses, you can always opt for the three-course prix-fixe menu for $135.—Keith Wagstaff
