We had some friends from out of town visiting, and wanted to see the Apache Trail. We didn't realize this ghost town was on the way! On our way back to Scottsdale, we stopped by to see what it was all about. Fun! It is a legitimate ghost town with gold mine tours and everything! It seems like they nickel and dime you on everything, from charging for the gold mine tour to the reptile exhibit, but you can still walk around free of charge. I took lots of pictures and had a good time imagining what it was like back in the old days. There are also warning signs all around warning about rattlesnakes. Be careful, take pictures, and have fun! The Goldfield Ghost Town is a really neat experience for locals and visitors alike.

We'll admit -- Goldfield isn't for everyone. But if you are the type of person who loves a little kitsch, then you might find a place in your heart for the campy town of Goldfield. According to our tour guide, the tourist trap was once a booming mining town -- until one of the most productive mines in the West was flooded. (Unless you had some high-tech scuba equipment, there was no way you were pulling gold outta there.) Learn all about the workings of the mines and the demise of... More »

For years, when hiking on the west flanks of the Superstition Mountains, we wondered where the hell that train-whistle noise was coming from. This year, we found out -- it's the whistle above the mine at the Goldfield Ghost Town. And we're happy to know, because the mine turns out to be a slice of Arizona we should have experienced years ago. A grizzled-looking prospector type gave the tour into the mine for our small group of adults and kids. Though we were impressed right away by the... More »

If you think Sheriff Joe has an itchy trigger finger take on due process, try running sideways with the law here in Goldfield. For a mere $10, a friend or family member can have you arrested, jailed, tried and hanged within five minutes by a couple of Old West sheriffs in full regalia and full of (feigned) firewater. It's all in fun, but rest assured, even in jest, there is nothing so humiliating and unnerving as being hunted down like a rabid dog and run through a kangaroo court to the... More »
