Description

With such dishes as lemongrass chicken, Mongolian beef, ginger fish, and huge vats of pho, Golden Era is just like any other area restaurant specializing in unfrilly Chinese and Vietnamese fare. However, the restaurant is run by followers of Supreme Master Ching Hai (Buddhist guru and fashion designer), and none of the meats are actually made of meat. Instead, each is a minor miracle of soy and wheat gluten manipulation. A greater miracle is that they taste quite good -- particularly the "spicy gourmet chicken" and the Vietnamese mung-bean crepe stuffed with bean sprouts and wrapped in lettuce leaves. The subterranean restaurant is attractively decorated, a vegetarian date-night staple.

    This place is a great spot to go when you have one or more vegetarian or vegan diners in your entourage. Everything is very tasty, and they have excellent fake meats.
