Event Review: She's Not There: The Myth of the Muse
Well worth the trip! My favorite piece features a black umbrella...and Marlene Tupy, of course. The concept of the show is captivating: many photographers/one model.
What a special treat to see all these images of a single model, Muse Marlene Tupy! We learn something of the intricacies that make up a life by viewing the many takes on one person. This is a complex and wonderful encounter, both with the eponymous model and the photographers who interpret her.
Event Review: She's Not There: The Myth of the Muse
This show was an insightful collection of beauty, poise and light. The curator, Douglas Beasley, did an exceptional job incorporating a plethora of styles, vision, and medium. Although I don't personally know Marlene Tupy, I felt like I should, or I could. The images begged of me to become familiar with who and what she is; and what she represents to others. The show was packed with viewers from the moment the doors opened and the excitement was contagious. I was particularly fascinated at the repetition and movement throughout the gallery pieces. It was the same face, the same body, in every image. However, they all felt transparent and particular to the creator. What a delightful show!
