Description

The owners of this little Gowanus bakery, sisters Melissa and Emily Elsen, sure know their Brooklyn clientele, serving direct-trade, organic coffee and providing loaner bike locks and tire pumps to the neighborhoodıs many bicyclists. Pies, made with mostly local and organic ingredients, are the main attraction. The menu varies by the season; you can expect pies like blood orange and rhubarb or plumb crumble in the summer, salted caramel apple in the fall, dark chocolate and dried cherry in winter and pear ginger in spring. Get your pie by the slice, or order two days in advance for a whole pie, which feeds about eight people and costs between $30 and $35. There is also a lunch menu featuring quiches, salads, soups and sandwiches. The small space is country chic, with various antiques and flowers scattered around the room, white-painted brick and simple wooden furniture giving it an airy, homey vibe.—Keith Wagstaff
