Description

Ketchup rice, mayonnaise spaghetti, and deep-fried hamburger patties are staples at Fort St. George. The food here is exactly like what you would get at a Denny's in Tokyo: Japanese interpretations of Western cuisine, also known as yoshoku. To Americans accustomed to pretty plates of sashimi and sushi, it can be unglamorous, even gross. But to the immigrants, exchange students, and those who've spent time abroad who eat at Fort St. George regularly, it's pure comfort food. Sure, it looks and feels more like a dive bar than a restaurant. Plates are $10 and come with miso soup. It's open for late night dining in the International District, too.

Main

Bacon And Egg Doria
(4/5) this is the only place that i know about that i can get a japanese doria. they have many different types, so i tried this one recently. yummy. nothing else needs to be said. : ) — ichikoo on

Hamburger Steak, Fort St. George Style
(5/5) best hamburger steak i've ever had outside of japan. very authentic. — furanku_pan on 5/5) hamburger steak is basically a beef patty with some sort of sauce that you can eat with rice. the typical sauce used it soy-sauce-based, but this version was very good. i think it's ketchup/tonkatsu sauce based. — ichikoo on

Japanese-style Fried Chicken
(3/5) medium-sized chunks of boneless chicken fried in a not-too-heavy batter. served with rice and cole slaw. pretty good, but more chicken would be nice : ) — justin on

Beef Curry With Rice And Hamburger Steak
(4/5) good curry, but not much beef. the hamburger steak was really tasty. — john on

Chicken Katsu Curry Over Rice
(4/5) the katsu isn't overbreaded or overfried. the curry is nicely flavored and not too watery. ask for more pickles. — wallyts on

Enoki Mushroom Spaghetti
(4/5) a very different style spaghetti. it's very asian, and was very good. i believe it used a soy-sauce-based sauce. — ichikoo on

Spicy Chicken Teriyaki
(4/5) good teriyaki, though it didn't seem spicy to me. but the meat was still good and tasty : -) i like the thinner sauce. — jetleigh on

Bacon And Mushroom Doria
(3/5) i had the one with the tomato sauce. but the white sauce was pretty good too. it's a cheesy baked rice dish that is of good proportion. — summerfugue on
