What FOOD lacks in creative naming the restaurant more than makes up for with their ability to serve hearty, good-for-both-body-and-soul, tasty comfort food. This West L.A. breakfast and lunch spot, which peppers its menu with the words "organic," "free-range," and "seasonal," offers breakfast all day, serving jazzed-up egg scrambles and omelets, a pancake-of-the-day and a morning FOOD sandwich with eggs, Vermont cheddar, bacon and potatoes with marinara and aioli that will make you swear off McMuffins for life. The soup, salad and sandwich-heavy lunch menu is equally as tempting, especially as you stare through the display case at the chicken, tuna, quinoa, potato and other salads, up to three of which can be served to you on a bed of greens. Whatever you pick, a homemade meatball on the side is never be a mistake. Nor is a blueberry tart for dessert.
Back in 2007, when Judy Ornstein first opened her neighborhood café FOOD, she had a recycling brainstorm: Why not install a plastic, serve-yourself, all-you-can-drink dispenser and fill it with filtered H20, ice cubes and whatever fruity odds and ends she found in the kitchen? The name says it all. The 'Food" speaks... Being a creature of habit, I haven't tried everything but the majority rules. Must tries: classic grilled cheese, chopped kitchen sink salad, steel cut oatmeal.
