This modern-day classic, whose traditional diner fare is dressed up with big-boned, global accents, isn't the trailblazer it was when Cindy Pawlcyn designed the menu and Pat Kuleto the space back in the 1980s. But the the place shows no sign of scuffing?the chrome and checkerboard tiles still gleam, the woodwork is still burnished, the cafe tables don't look like they've weathered a thousand knife cuts. A gin martini, a few dozen oysters, a late-night burger, are still more than appropriate.
