FLO(we){u}r Recommended

  • Description

For "FLO(we){u}r," the Soap Factory will go from gallery to bomb factory. The experiment plays off a bit of World War I history, when terracotta manufacturers were employed by the military to create test bombs to toss out of planes. Clay bombs were filled with flour so they would leave white marks upon impact. This aided planes, enabling real bomb dropping to be more accurate. Ceramic artists Amber Ginsburg and Joe Madrigal will be building similar items through May in the northeast Minneapolis gallery, though the outcome will have a more peaceful and sporadic impact. Guests are invited to stop by during production hours to help fill the clay bombs with both baking flour and a white flower seed mix. Visitors will also be welcome to join the artists on several planned bike-bomb seed-shaker rides to help disperse the terracotta creations. Unlike the bombs used in war, these will most likely leave a positive, beautifying effect. There will be an opening reception from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, April 28. Check online at www.soapfactory.org for artists' talks, bomb events, Northern Spark events, and the Talking Image Connection reading.
