Sundays are the day to visit Flossie's, tucked away on a service road in Dania Beach. Despite the down-and-out location, regulars describe it as a family bar. Family for bikers, that is. Drive into the parking lot to find a sea of Harleys: shiny new hogs, some with cabs, others with “sissy bars” for long hauls. Past the sea of bikes and picnic tables, in what looks like a motel from another era, you'll find a sea of regulars. Flossie's interior is a sprawling common area that desperately needs a makeover, with rescued kitchen furniture and worn bar stools. The place has been a biker staple since 1975. Bar food is the staple here, though occasionally it's Mexican night, with tacos and burritos when the cook gets creative. Burgers and wings serve as fuel for a clientele that needs something to soak up the booze.

Most bars fall into the tomb category. Black walls. Few windows, if any at all. Darkened booths. Low ceilings. Flossie's, however, is a paean to the open road -- and sky. First, it's tiki style, with additional benches and tables under a nearby oak tree where you can enjoy your $2.50 bottle of Bud or Miller or the like.
