Five Star Burgers in downtown Clayton is a new venture from Steve Gontram, best known to St. Louis diners for his time as the owner and chef of the restaurant Harvest. Though a burger joint, Five Star Burgers displays the same passion for quality ingredients and presentations that made Harvest so acclaimed. The burgers are excellent, especially the green-chile cheeseburger (a recipe from Gontram's father in New Mexico), and the kitchen knows what a medium-rare temperature is. Other sandwiches include burgers made from lamb, bison and turkey, and there are two vegetarian options. Crucially for a burger joint, the fries are top-notch, and the list of craft beers is excellent.
