  • Description

Northeast Minneapolis doesn't merely have a couple of art galleries along its main drags. Rather, it has quite a few buildings full of dozens galleries and studios in multiple spots. On the first Thursday of each month, many artists open their work and showroom spaces for special demonstrations, artist talks, mini-parties, live entertainment, and sales. Participating locations include the California Building (2205 California St. NE), the Casket Arts Building (681 17th Ave. NE), the Northrup King Building (1500 Jackson St. NE), the Q.arma Building (1224 Quincy St. NE), and others. If you're the type who enjoys checking out local art without having to schedule an appointment, this monthly happening is a great opportunity to browse in a low-key, no-pressure environment. If you're looking to make an evening of it, you might also want to stop by the Red Stag (509 First Ave. NE), which boasts First Thursday happy-hour specials, plus live music later in the evening. Or visit Chowgirls Parlor starting at 6 p.m. (1222 Second St. NE). For more info, visit nemaa.org.
