First Thursdays in the Arts District 

Now that the weather is more manageable, we can begin to look forward to all the outdoor art fairs that sunny skies allow. However, these happenings can be a bummer when it gets a little too crowded to enjoy, and often the artists aren't local. This should never be a problem at First Thursdays. Every month, folks with studios in the Northrup King building open their spaces for special receptions, sales, and other low-key-but-awesome activities. Here guests can check out work by dozens of creative types, from ceramics, to photography, to jewelry, to paintings, to home furnishings. Oh, and often there are free treats, such as root beer floats for those with a sweet tooth or a token for a free drink afterward at the Red Stag Supper Club (while supplies last; but it's happy hour until close during these events anyway if you don't pick one up in time). — By Jessica Armbruster
