This Syrian restaurant descended from the long-running Magic Carpet on Carmine, which was replaced by Shopsin's, and later by Market Table. The menu offers an assimilated take on Levantine food; while the bread salad fatoosh is disappointingly carbophobic, anything made with lamb will be a hit. This includes the moist, meaty lamb kebabs, but also lamb ouzi, a dome-shaped phyllo pie bulging with flavor. The plebian falafel are better than you've tasted recently, but why not spring for kibbeh balls - orotund cracked wheat fritters stuffed with lamb, pignoli, and currants. A raw version of the filling alone is recommended only for the adventurous.
