Description

Since 1987, this downtown Minneapolis destination has filled a role in making sure that First Avenue isn't the only music hotspot in the neighborhood. After surviving a 2003 fire, the club came back with upgraded audiovisuals and a new stage, and they've reliably continued to maintain a calendar filled with a broad range of international touring acts and local up-and-comers.

  • Daughter

    Daughter

Echoing a melody-minded crossbreed of Cat Power and the XX, buzzy British trio Daughter soundtracked steamy Grey's Anatomy scenes and dominated blogosphere chatter last year, even before releasing a full-length. After two rapturously received... More »

    Black Moth Super Rainbow

Mondays are rough, but Black Moth Super Rainbow's psych-out drone-pop can enliven a bruised aura. Mysterious frontman Tobacco returns with a new supporting cast on the heels of the band's self-released Cobra Juicy. Its ambiance is conducive to... More »

The Black Angels / Allah-Las / Elephant Stone

The 21st-century neo-psychedelic phenomenon is an actual movement, with its own annual gathering (the upcoming Austin Psych Fest) and a slew of bands on the kaleidoscopic bandwagon, including these three. Austin's Black Angels, named after a... More »

    Jamie Lidell

A 39-year-old pasty Englishman with production skills and a soulful set of pipes, Jamie Lidell may not look the part of suave potential Prince successor, but he confidently produces the sound. Lidell's self-titled fifth solo album was recorded in... More »

  • Murs

    Murs

If you gave Murs' name an autocomplete somewhere in your mind, there'd probably be an ampersand somewhere in there. Though the West Coast indie rap icon's got a long history of well-loved solo records -- 2003's The End of the Beginning belongs on... More »

  • 2003 | BEST ROCK CLUB

Honoring a club that has just been gutted for renovations might seem silly. But the Fine Line deserves this much. On the night of February 17, when some Seattle band set off pyrotechnics that turned the ceiling into a scene out of Backdraft, the staff got everybody out of the building quickly and safely. The same couldn't be said for the E2 in Chicago the night before, or the Station in Rhode Island a few days later. A combined 120 people lost their lives in those disasters, leaving the... More »
